SUMMARY PROJECT DESCRIPTION
TITLE: “Procurement and Installation of Electro-Optical Systems for Hellenic Navy Helicopters”
SUBJECT: Within the framework of the Invitation to Tender 6.8.1 of the Managing Authority of the OP “YMEPERAA” (Transport Infrastructure, Environment, Sustainable Development) entitled “Installation/Improvement of Maritime Traffic Management, Navigation Safety, and Maritime Search and Rescue Systems”, of which the Ministry of National Defence is a beneficiary, the purpose of the project is to improve the level of navigation safety, maritime search and rescue, and security of port installations of the Trans-European Transport Network.
This project concerns the installation of maritime traffic management, navigation safety, and maritime search and rescue systems and includes:
The procurement of up to six (6) electro-optical systems for Hellenic Navy Helicopters, which will carry out search and rescue, as well as the procurement of related Search and Rescue (SAR) equipment. The electro-optical systems must be certified for installation and use on S-70B-6 helicopters flying at speeds equal to or greater than 180 KIAS.
The Hellenic Navy’s S-70B-6 helicopters, in addition to combat missions, also conduct social contribution missions (Search and Rescue, aeromedical evacuations, migration flow control). The electro-optical sensor of the helicopter in question is a monitoring and indication system, rendering the aircraft capable of surveillance, reconnaissance, monitoring, early warning, and navigation, capabilities which are deemed necessary during all social contribution and navigation safety missions undertaken by the Hellenic Navy’s helicopters.
With the procurement of the electro-optical systems (FLIR), which will be installed on the Hellenic Navy’s S-70B-6 helicopters, the Hellenic Navy will obtain the capability of successfully executing its assigned missions under day, low light, night, low cloud, low visibility, and bad weather conditions, from any altitude. These systems will improve the sea surveillance capabilities to find people at risk or in need of help.
The aim of the project is to improve the level of navigation safety and to increase the effectiveness of maritime search and rescue.
